Kuntanase (Ash), July 23, GNA- The Bosomtwi Rural Bank with its headquarters at Kuntanase in the Bosomtwi District of Ashanti is currently supporting 17 of its shareholders' children in Senior High Schools across the country with scholarship. Mr Felix Owusu-Achiaw, Supervising Manager of the Bank, who announced this, explained that each of the students was given 300 Ghana cedis per year to relieve their parents of their financial bills. He said this when he addressed participants during a quiz competition organised by the management of the Bank, as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary celebration of the Bank at Kuntanase on Monday.
The Supervising Manager urged the students to take their education serious especially on issues concerning their environment, which could help them live healthy lives as well as make their environment much safer and comfortable to live in. Mr Owusu-Achiaw indicated that due to the interest the bank had in education, it had recently introduced a new product to support the upkeep of newly-trained teachers posted to the Bosomtwi, Amansie East and West Districts.
He said the newly trained teachers could access loans up to 1,000 Ghana cedis to enable them hire and furnish their rooms and that they would start re-payment when they started receiving their salaries. The quiz competition, supervised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), brought together four Junior High Schools (JHS) from the Bank's catchment area, and was tested on the constitution of Ghana, the Bank's history and general knowledge. Trede JHS came first with 25 points, followed by Kuntanase JHS with 19 points, Kokofu JHS was third with 18 points and Jachie Anglican JHS placed fourth with 16 points.
Each of the participating schools was given an undisclosed amounts of money and a certificate.
