Donkorkrom(E/R), Jan.18, GNA - A British firm, D-One Oil Company, is to acquire about 5,000 to 10,000 hectares of land in the Afram Plains to cultivate Jathropha Curcas seeds for the production of bio-diesel. Mr Joshua Ankomah a representative of the company disclosed this to Miss Susan Mensah, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Solomon Yaw Fordjour, Afram Plains District Chief Executive, and officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) during a tour of the Afram Plains at Donkorkrom.
He said the company would export the seeds and provide planting materials to interested farmers in the cultivation of the seeds. Mr Samuel Nyamekye, an Assistant Director of MOFA, said the Ministry was negotiation with the company to establish a factory in Ghana to process some of the seeds into bio-diesel. Mr Fordjour gave the assurance that the assembly would facilitate acquisition of land for investment by investors in the Afram Plains. Ms Mensah said establishment of the farm in the Afram Plains was ideal but some of the seeds should be processed locally into bio-diesel to provide employment for people in the area. 18 Jan. 06
