Business Association advocates streamlining of poultry industry

Participants at an advocacy training workshop for Private Business Sector Associations had advocated the involvement of major companies importing frozen chicken and other poultry products in the development of the local poultry industry.

They were of the opinion that the importers could be made to invest a percentage of their value of annual imports into the local poultry industry to help create jobs, wealth and sustain the sector.

These were the views expressed at the four-day training workshop on advocacy for some executive officers of private business sector associations by the Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) and supported by the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.

The participants were of the view that reduction in importation of poultry products like frozen chicken and eggs should be a gradual process spread over a period, while efforts are been made to promote the local poultry industry to fill the gap.

Nana Osei Bonsu, Director General of PEF, advised business sector associations to consider the interest of other stakeholders in the private business sector when advocating solutions to their challenges.

He said in most cases it was better for the “win-win” approach to be adopted with the best interest of the public in mind.**
