C65bn released for PSI on Oil Palm

Jacobu (Ash), Oct 29, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday announced that the Government had released 65 billion cedis to boost the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on Oil Palm production. He said the amount was to be used for land preparation for transplanting of oil palm seedlings nursed for the programme.

President Kufuor was addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Jacobu, capital town of the newly created Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region on the second day of his six-day official tour of the region.

He said the Government had also allocated seven billion cedis for infrastructure development in the district and that the roads in Jacobu would be repaired together with the main one linking the town to Kumasi and Obuasi.

President Kufuor said the district would also be provided with a hospital and one senior secondary school in the area would be upgraded to promote health and education.

Nana Fosu Abiri II, chief of Jacobu, appealed to the government to repair roads, provide potable water and ensure effective health care delivery to facilitate the development of the area.

He also appealed to the authorities to assist farmers involved in the PSI on oil palm to enhance agriculture in the area.
