Accra, Aug.26, GNA - The Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Thursday cautioned prospective vehicle buyers to desist from procuring fake documents to register uncustomed vehicles.
The CEPS said some devious Ghanaians still resort to importing vehicles into the country in dubious ways with the support of foreign nationals under the Temporary Importation Facilities in order to avoid payment of taxes.
A statement Annie Anipa, Assistant Commissioner and of the Public Relations Directorate of CEPS advised the public, particularly vehicle buyers in their own interest to contact CEPS Regional Offices or Headquarters to confirm the genuineness of the documents covering intended purchased vehicles.
It said vehicle buyers found with uncustomed vehicles with fake documents stood the risk of paying the full duties and taxes on the vehicle plus pecuniary penalty or forfeiture of the vehicle. It added that CEPS vehicle Task Forces across the country still mount exercises to get rid of uncustomed vehicles from the system.
