CIOB Chair elected Vice President of CIOB Africa

The Ghana Centre Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Building, (CIOB), Rockson Dogbegah was on Tuesday, 11th June 2013 elected as the Vice President for Africa of the Institute. He was elected at its 10th annual general meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mr. Dogbegah’s election comes just a year after he was selected to head the Ghana Centre of the Institute. According to the CIOB, his current elevation to the number-two position in the whole of Africa is the result of his hard work and perseverance since he took over management of the Ghana branch.

As Vice President, he will be responsible for the growth of CIOB on the continent, with special emphasis on the West African sub-region. He will also be promoting professionalism in the construction sector across the continent.

In a related development, CIOB Ghana has congratulated Mr. Dogbegah for picking up two awards for his contribution to the construction industry in Ghana. Mr. Dogbegah, who is also the Chairman for Berock Ventures -- a local construction company -- and a chartered builder, was recently awarded as the Best Entrepreneur in the Building and Civil Engineering category at the 3rd UT Ghana Entrepreneurs Award 2012. He was also honoured by the West Africa Nobles Forum in recognition of his achievement as an entrepreneur, as well as his integrity. The award was also conferred on him for his courage to speak to issues of public interest dispassionately, when others have shied away.

Speaking on the awards, a council-member of CIOB Ghana, Mr. Johnson Teye, said Mr. Dogbegah has distinguished himself in the construction industry by exhibiting professionalism at all times. He cited Mr. Dogbegah’s quest to ensure the construction industry is sanitised and regulated by leading a year-long campaign to achieve this objective. He urged construction industry professionals to rally behind him and lend their support to ensure that the ultimate goal of getting a regulator for the industry is achieved.

Mr. Teye also used the occasion to challenge the members of CIOB to be up and doing, and to also make their voices heard on matters that would affect their industry directly. He particularly urged the young ones to emulate Mr. Dogbegah‘s example and strive to be the best they can in their chosen field. In response, Mr. Dogbegah thanked the members of CIOB Ghana and promised to lead the drive until the intended results are achieved.
