CLOGSAG not with happy with Fair Wages and Salaries Commission

Wa, April 7, GNA - The Upper West Regional branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Wednesday called on government to ensure that all anomalies of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) were corrected before its implementation in July.

It said it was not happy with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission's placement of the grading of job holders, especially for CLOGSAG. In a petition presented to the Upper West Deputy Regional Minister, Mr Caesar Kale calling for government's intervention, CLOGSAG said it has realised that some members have not been properly placed. Mr Geoffrey W. Tuu, Regional Secretary, who read the petition, noted that executives of the Association would not sit unconcerned to witness the implementation of a policy that would rather unduly worsened conditions of its members. As a result, he said, government should without delay open negotiations for 2010 salary adjustments based on Ghana Universal Salary Structure pending the correction of all anomalies associated with the SSSS.

Mr Kale commended the Association for the mature manner it conducted itself and gave the assurance that their concerns would be addressed. He said government was implementing the SSSS in order to address salary disparities and would therefore welcome all concerns regarding its implementation.

He also assured them that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission would soon come to the region to better explained things on the implementation of the policy to give them a fair understanding of their operations. Mr Kale advised members of the Association to be patient and also carry out their duties as expected of them while waiting on government to address their concerns.
