Citrus farmers secure contract to export to the UK

Twifo Praso (C/R), Sept. 23, GNA - The National Citrus Growers and Marketing Association has secured a contract to export 250,000 tonnes of their produce to a United Kingdom based firm.

The National Chairman of the association, Mr Appiah Amankwah, said this at the inauguration of a 10-member executive for the Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District branch of the association at the weekend.

Mr Amankwah did not state how much the contract would fetch the association or when the exportation would begin but said the National Executive was taking measures to mobilise all citrus farmers in the country to enable it meet the terms of the contract and appealed to all citrus farmers to register with the association.

The District Chief Executive, Abraham Odoom who inaugurated the local branch of the association, appealed to chiefs and land owners to release more land for farming in the district.

Mr Odoom reiterated his administration's preparedness to support organisations that assist farmers to increase production and appealed to all citrus farmers in the district to join the association. 23 Sept. 03
