GhanaWeb Business has learned that claims suggesting the Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, was constructing a personal residence for himself are false.

This clarification comes after Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, alleged that the Central Bank was building a personal residence to accommodate Governor Ernest Addison at a speculated cost of $40 million.

However, verified sources within the Bank, including a response to a Right to Information (RTI) query, have confirmed that the ongoing construction at the Bank's clinic premises is actually intended for an official duty post for the Central Bank and not a residence for the Governor.

The Bank of Ghana also advised Mahama Ayariga to consult the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) for further clarification on the project.

The Central Bank sources emphasized that the construction is in line with official requirements and was not meant for private residence purposes.

The BoG's response to the RTI query, which was dated June 18, 2024 aims to clear up any misunderstandings about the construction project linked to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana [Ernest Addison].

Dr. Ernest Addison is currently serving his second and final term as Governor of the Central Bank.
