Coca-Cola Company to support Ghana with biogas and sanitation facilities

Accra, Aug 17, GNA - Coca-Cola Company in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has launched a foundation to execute projects in Ghana as part of their social responsibility.

The Foundation would initially build a number of public toilet facilities in the Greater Accra Region, a biogas plant and later engage in fruit processing.

Mr Ahmet Bozer, President of Eurasia and Africa Group of Coca-Cola Company, announced these when he paid a courtesy call on Vice President John Dramani Mahama at the Castle, Osu on Tuesday.

He said the Foundation would benefit about 15,000 students, while the fruit processing industry would provide jobs for about 50,000 farmers throughout the country "just like we have performed in Pakistan, Egypt and other beneficiary countries in the world."

The Coca-Cola President, however, appealed to government to consider reducing the high taxes on corporate bodies to enable them to churn out better services for their consumers.

Vice President Mahama commended the company for committing its support to the water and sanitation sector, as it was a key factor that could enable the country to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

"Over 40 per cent of people in the rural areas of the country still do not have potable water and am particularly happy that your intervention is in that direction."

The Vice President promised to take a critical look at the corporate tax and help to find amicable solutions to their challenges.
