Cocoa farmers appeal to COCOBOD to release funds

Cocoa farmers in some communities of the Kwahu West Municipality have appealed to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to release funds to the purchasing clerks towards the purchase of cocoa beans for the light crop cocoa season.

The farmers told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkawkaw that the purchasing clerks of Produce Buying Company (PBC) and the private buying companies had complained of lack of funds to pay for cocoa beans after weighing them at the various cocoa sheds.

They said they need money to pay for their children’s school fees and other social responsibilities and appealed to COCOBOD to release the funds to the purchasing clerks to enable them to pay farmers to alleviate poverty in the rural areas.

Some of the PBC purchasing clerks when contacted also complained that the COCOBOD had not released adequate funds to them for the purchase of cocoa beans for this year’s light crop season.
