Communications minister visits burnt SURFLINE Data Center

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, has paid a visit to the Data Center of SURFLINE Telecommunications Network in Tema to ascertain the extent of damage caused by the fire outbreak Sunday afternoon.

The fire, which started around 1600 hours, was brought under control with the swift response by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.

Speaking after an inspection of the damaged facility, Dr Boamah, who was with staff of the National Communication Authority, assured the company of government’s support to restore service to its customers.

He said as a country, there was the need to work in a way to avert the re-occurrence of fire outbreaks at important places.

He said the Ministry, together with the National Communication Authority, were confident the network would restore service to better serve its customers.

Dr Yaw Akoto, Chief Executive Officer of SURFLINE Telecommunication Network, said the company was still at the assessment stage.

He said the network has been impacted but a team of engineers were working around the clock to restore service.

“Some of the critical elements have been affected and we will provide compensation to our customers,” he said.
