Companies asked to improve capacity of workers

New Aberim, (E/R), July 16, GNA- Mr Samuel R. Asiedu, a Labour Consultant, on Wednesday has advised companies to improve the capacity of employees to increase production.

He asked management of companies to access the capacity of workers before designing training programmes to upgrade their skills. Mr Asiedu was speaking on "Managing Employees for excellent performance: the role of management and unions" at the inauguration of the Junior Staff Union and the Professional and Management Staff Union, all of Newmont Ghana Gold branch of Ghana Mines Workers Union (GMWU), at New Aberim.

He said unionization was essential tool for collective bargaining agreement and active participation of workers in the administration of companies for improved working conditions.

Mr Asiedu said to excel, workers must be committed to ensuring "personal integrity and self-respect", and to understand their job specification and work assiduously to attain set objectives. He advised management to address issues of unionization realistically, recognize workers' right of association and to motivate unions members to enable them to appreciate the vision and direction of management.

Mr Asiedu advised management to provide a healthy and safe working environment through the promotion of occupational safety and health programmes to ensure excellent performance.
