The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has directed that the country’s borders remain closed for an additional two weeks, effective Monday, April 20.

The latest announcement, however, follows the lifting of the partial lockdown imposed on some parts of the country as part of measures taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus, despite an increase in the country’s case count which is now 1,042.

According to President Akufo-Addo, “the overwhelming majority of confirmed cases have come from travellers or from people who have come into contact with travellers.

It was against this backdrop that he said a new Executive Instrument has been signed to extend the border closure.

Meanwhile, he entreated the public to continue to be vigilant about travelers into the country and commended the security services for their role in securing the borders.
