The Ministry of Energy has questioned the credibility of COPEC-Ghana due to what the ministry considers to be the conduct of its Executive Secretary, Mr Duncan Amoah who has been consistently making unsubstantiated allegations of wrongdoing against the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited(BOST).

The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana, Duncan Amoah on Monday accused the management of BOST for allegedly causing financial loss to the state in the sale of some barrels of crude oil.

He claimed Ghana lost an estimated GHS30million in revenue when 1.8million barrels of crude oil was sold to an “unlicensed company” BB Energy.

He further alleged the oil was sold to the private company at a discount of two dollars a barrel when prices on the international market were on the rise.

Duncan Amoah also alleged that Mr Alfred Obeng Boateng has sent some assassins to come after his life just because he pressed the alarm bells on the fictitious deals

This claims prompted the management of BOST to hold a press conference to respond to issues Mr Duncan Amoah raised.

Addressing the press, Head of fuel trade at BOST, Albert Mantey, refuted the allegations by Mr. Duncan Amoah sold 1.8million barrel of crude at $54 per barrel instead of $56, insisting that, the company did nothing wrong in the sale of the fuel in question.

He claimed that Mr Duncan is being pushed to peddle lies and falsehood about BOST in a bid to damage the reputation of the company

But commenting on the ongoing media war between BOST and COPEC-Ghana, Head of Communications at the Ministry of Energy, Nana Kofi Damoah described the ongoing media war as very disturbing and worrying.

He explained that over the years the Ministry noticed that although its doors are opened for engagement on issues that borders players in the energy sector yet COPEC-Ghana would always resort to the media to bastardize officials of BOST.

He argued that there other civil society groups such as African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) which has proven to be more credible as compared to COPEC.

“The track record of COPEC is extremely questionable. Their actions over the years go beyond the arena of civil society group into propaganda machinery,” he opined.

Nana Damoah who took exception to the conduct of Mr Duncan stressed the for underscored the need for him to desist from engaging in propaganda.

“This attitude of COPEC needs to be stopped. They should desist from this character”, he said.
