D.I.C Takes Over Nsawam Cannery

There is more trouble on the horizon for ex-first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and her nearly defunct 31 December Women?s Movement as the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC) has initiated steps to take over the Nsawam Cannery.

This is because Caridem, the front for DWM, which purchased the cannery, had defaulted in the payment of the purchase price since 1994.

Even though the Cannery was sold to them for a give away price of ?2.789 billion, Caridem paid only ?909 million, leaving an accumulated balance plus interests of ?7.45 billion.

Earlier this month the Auditor General released a report indicating that Caridem was indebted to the DIC and other banks to the tune of several billions of cedis. However, Nana Konadu has since been giving interviews and issuing statements denying the Auditor General?s report and claiming political harassment.

Sources close to the DIC revealed to newsmen that since Caridem failed to honour the agreement with regards to the payment of the purchase price, they were taking steps to reclaim the Cannery and offer it to another buyer.

Meanwhile, the government guaranteed several banks loans on behalf of the DWM and the bank were now collating a list of such loans for further action.
