Databank: Ken Ofori-Atta steps down as non-executive Chair

Investment Banker, Ken Ofori-Atta has officially stepped down as the non-Executive Chairman of the DataGroup.

He resigned last week after serving for two years. Until his resignation, Mr Ofori-Atta was the Executive Chairman of the Group, a position he has occupied since 1990.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 2015 fellows for the Africa Leadership Initiative, Mr Ofori-Atta said: “I was beginning to ask myself whether this is all I could do, or whether the Lord has something else for me to do, so it’s been two years of not being executive, but still being chairman of the Bank and that has gone very well and now deciding to completely cut the umbilical cord and really step out to do something different in Civil society.”

Mr Ofori-Atta stepped down as the Executive Chair of the Databank Group in 2012 to relieve himself of the day-to-day administration of the firm even though he stayed on as the ceremonial chair.

Together with Mr Kelly Gadzekpo, the two set up Databank in 1990. The firm has become one of the leading investment banks in Ghana and within the sub-region.

The Africa Leadership initiative is a collaborative effort of seven partner organisations in Africa and the United States, which fosters values-based, action-oriented leadership in Africa.

ALI Fellows are highly successful, entrepreneurial individuals from business, government and civil society. There are currently some 353 African Fellows from all of the countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda plus 45 Nigeria Leadership Fellows in the Diaspora.

This year’s fellows include Bright Simmons of IMANI Ghana, Bernard Avle of Citi FM and Franklin Cudjoe, also of IMANI.
