Deputy Minister urges G77 to move their economies forward

Accra, June 15, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Akwasi Osei-Adjei on Wednesday urged G77 member states to move their economies forward to a level that would enable their respective countries to achieve better living conditions.

He said such an endeavour would call for a clear vision and full commitment on the part of the leaders of the developing world. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he was addressing the Second South Summit of the G77 and China in Doha, Qatar. On the forthcoming September High Level Plenary meeting, Mr Osei-Adjei said the G77 would need to make their collective voice heard "loud and clear" with regard to the proposed UN reforms and the economic agenda on the Millennium Development Goals.

Some 3,000 participants from all member states of the G77 and China are represented at the Doha Summit.

The Summit was preceded a Senior Officials meeting and a Ministerial meeting held on June 12 and 13 respectively. The two meetings finalized two main documents for the Summit entitled "The Doha Plan of Action" and The Doha Declaration", which would be submitted to the Heads of State and Government for adoption.
