Government must invest in developing the country’s marketing institutions to make farming vibrant and increase its contribution to the economy, Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo, has admonished.
“I want to encourage the government to continue to develop our marketing institutions,” he stressed.
Speaking at the Eastern regional 32nd Farmers’ Day celebration at Odumase-Krobo in the Lower Manya municipality on Friday, November 3, the chief expressed disappointment over the deplorable state of roads in farming communities.
He called for the development of such roads leading to farms and markets and appealed for financing schemes for farmers, which will “provide loans at reasonable interest rates”.
He challenged farmers to form cooperative unions to plan and set up factories to process farm produce into finished products. He was hopeful that cooperative societies can help provide goods and services to members at a cheaper cost.
