Dumsor is back; Publish load-shedding timetable now - ACEP charges

Policy Director at the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Dr. Ishmael Ackah, has charged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to come out with a comprehensive timetable for what he describes as an 'ongoing load shedding programme' in the country.

According to Dr. Ackah, the ECG is currently shedding between 170 and 240 Megawatts of Power.

‘ECG is currently shedding about 170mw on regular basis and 240mw during the peak time’ Dr. Ackah revealed.

Dr. Ackah, explained that the current power shortage is due to the shut-down of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah for maintenance works. He adds that the shutdown has led to a shortfall in gas supply to the Ameri power plant, hence the unplanned action.

He said, ‘ECG should take immediate steps to communicate a schedule to the public and explain measures they are taking to resolve the fuel challenge’ Dr. Ackah noted.

Dr. Ishmael Ackah wants the ECG to immediately release a load-shedding timetable to allow consumers plan effectively.

Energy think-tank ACEP, earlier this year warned that Ghana was likely to face another power crisis having suffered a similar situation in the past three years. But officials of the then NDC government maintained that more than enough had been done to prevent a recurrence of the situation.
