A cross section of Ghanaians has ranked the E-Levy and betting tax as the top issues they expect President-elect John Mahama to tackle once he is sworn in as President on January 7, 2024.

According to them, these taxes have become major causes of the economic problems that Ghanaians are currently facing.

The electronic transaction levy was instituted in 2022 to charge a 1% levy on electronic transactions above 100 cedis.

The betting tax is also a 10% tax applied to all bet winnings, a tax policy that has been vehemently opposed by Ghanaians, especially the youth.

Speaking to GhanaWeb TV, they said the President-elect must also review the Free Senior High School policy to make it more effective.

A man who sells shoes noted: “The first thing the president should do is abolish the E-Levy. He should also cancel the betting tax and review Free SHS.”
