The Volta and Oti Regional Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mrs. Christina Jato-Kaleo, has assured residents of the two regions of uninterrupted power supply during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

She attributed this assurance to logistical improvements and strategic upgrades implemented to enhance operations in the two regions.

Speaking to the media in Ho, Mrs. Jato-Kaleo highlighted ECG’s commitment to ensuring reliable electricity for its customers in the Volta and Oti regions.

“We want to assure the general public and our customers that ECG will do everything in our power to keep your lights stable over the period. We have added transformers to expand supply. Then we have done upgrades,” she said.

She explained that the upgrades include replacing smaller capacity transformers with larger ones to handle increased demand and installing double circuit tower lines.

“When we talk about double circuit tower lines, we mean when there’s a problem on one, we just switch to the other one. Your light is stable. Then you work on the faulty one and switch back,” she elaborated.

The Regional Manager also urged the public to avoid illegal electricity connections, especially during the festive period, and to practice energy conservation.

“Illegal connections mostly happen during these festive occasions. We also want to appeal to the general public to help us by stopping and reporting anyone found to be engaging in the act. We also want to appeal to the general public to practise energy conservation,” she emphasized.

Mrs. Jato-Kaleo noted that ECG is working on projects to expand electricity to underserved communities in the Volta and Oti Regions. However, she revealed that these efforts have been hampered by bushfires, which destroyed nearly 100 electricity poles in the regions last year.

“We have ongoing projects to expand electricity to other communities. And we are stalling because last year alone, we had close to 100 poles in Volta and Oti going down because of bushfires. These poles could have been used to extend power to other communities,” she lamented.

She reaffirmed ECG’s commitment to improving service delivery, highlighting achievements in revenue mobilization and operational efficiency, and urged the public to support the company’s efforts to maintain a stable power supply throughout the yuletide.

The ECG’s proactive measures reflect its dedication to enhancing the quality of power supply while addressing the needs of customers across the Volta and Oti Regions.
