The Minister for Transport, Kwaku Asiamah Ofori, has said Ghanaians must recognise the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the one who brought electric buses to Ghana.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia has achieved a milestone in ensuring that the EVs arrive in Ghana to ease Ghana's transportation crisis; therefore, his credit should not be given to anyone else.

Speaking at the launch of the buses on November 27, 2024, he said, "There shouldn't be any contention about who introduced electric vehicles."

To address the country's public transportation challenges coupled with traffic congestion in the capital, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, unveiled 100 electric buses for public transport.

According to him, the buses will help lower transport costs by up to 40 to 50 percent.

He said the buses are fuel and energy-efficient and will help the country protect itself from the rising cost of fuel on the international market.

The launch, a collaborative effort between Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) and the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), introduces electric buses as a cost-effective, eco-friendly alternative to conventional transportation.
