Ernest Chemists Limited, one of Ghana’s leading pharmaceutical companies is tipped to finish its ultramodern European Union Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GMP) standard factory by end of year.

The pharmaceutical plant which is estimated to cost about $50 million has close to 11 thousand square meters of land size with a 20 thousand square meter fully automated warehouse.

Chief Executive Officer of Ernest Chemists, Dr. Ernest Bediako said the new factory is built to meet international standards in order to attract multinational companies with regards to partnership and production outsourcing.

“It is a factory of European Union GMP standard so you need the right equipment which may be expensive,” he said

On his side, the Project Manager, Evans Essienyi said because the facility is being built on European Union GMP standards, drugs produced will be sold across the borders of Ghana.

“I am happy to inform you that you’re sharing history, this project when completed will be the first of its kind in Ghana and the sub-region”

According to him, Ernest Chemists is unable to take international contracts because their current manufacturing site does not meet international standards, adding that "when the new edifice is done, Ernest Chemist will be able to take international contracts which will translate into having very affordable medicines with international standards on the Ghanaian market’

He said the project when completed will employ close to 500 workers.
