Ho, Dec. 19, GNA - Mr Micca Tulevo, Marketing Manager of Mic-Dventures, a marketing organization, has called on district assemblies in the Volta Region to channel resources into trade and business promotion in the region.
He suggested to the assemblies to establish trade and business promotion funds for that purpose.
Mr Tulevo said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the six-day Transvolta Trade Fair dubbed VoltaXPO'6, which opened in Ho on Tuesday.
Expected to be on display would be furniture, beads, local herbal products, paints, foam mattresses and agriculture inputs among others. He said such trade promotion activities were necessary to expose the business potentials of the region to the rest of the country and the world at large and attract entrepreneurs into the region. Mr Tulevo said the region needed business exposure to facilitate the exchange of business ideas and information with regions that have made significant strides.
He expressed regret at the lack of interest among district assemblies in the region to such initiatives except the North-Dayi (Kpando) and South-Tongu District assemblies.
He said the current business environment in the country was challenging requiring innovative professional marketing practice.
Mr Tulevo said since 2003 when his organization started organizing the annual trade fairs, small businesses especially in batik have increased from two to 20 with some ga ining international stature by way of international orders. The North Dayi District has similarly gained from United States orders in various indigenous handicrafts.
