Farmers in Birim North benefit from PFJ

A total of 317 farmers in the Birim North District Assembly in 2018, benefited from Food and Jobs(PFJ) programme, cultivating 200 acres of maize plantation at the Kweikaru forest near Amuana Praso.

Mr Remond Nana Damptey who disclosed this at a session meeting of the assembly said, the farmers were made up of 316 males and 55 females.

He said, the district received 75 bags of maize seeds of which 45.8 bags were distributed and 29.2 bags were currently in stock.

The DCE said, 20 bags of rice seeds were received of which 3.8 bags were distributed and 16.2 bags were kept in stock as well as 20 cans of cucumber seeds were received out of which two cans were distributed.

Another 20 cans of Lettuce were received and four of them were distributed.

He explained that cabbage received a huge boost because all the 30 cans received were distributed leaving none for keep.

Mr Damptey said 292 bags of NPK and 175 bags of Urea fertilizers were also received of which 291 bags of NPK and 156 bags of Urea were distributed.

He said the assembly was putting in measures to ensure that the PFJ programme was fully implemented for many farmers to benefit and ensure food security.
