Farmers need motivation to increase production

The Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, has observed that food production in the country can only be increased when conscious efforts are made to motivate the ordinary farmer.

He has therefore called on the public to support Government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to donate toward the celebration of National Farmers’ Day, noting that such a step would go a long way to motivate the farmer and ensure an increase of food production in the country.

Dr. Dawson-Ahmoah made the call when he led a delegation from Ghacem Limited to hand over 1000 bags of cement worth GH¢20,000 to the MOFA toward celebration of the 29th National Farmers Day event scheduled to take place next month at Sogakope in the Volta Region.

Present to receive the donation on behalf of the Ministry and the National Farmers’ Day Organising Committee was the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of crops, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan. He was supported by the Director of Finance and Administration at MOFA, Mrs. Adelaide Anno-Kumi, and Dr. Kwame Amezah, Director Extension at MOFA.

Dr. Dawson-Ahmoah observed that the theme for this year’s event was appropriate and well-captured in Ghacem’s donation of cement bags, since it will assist in the construction of farmhouses and post-harvest storage facilities for farmers -- thereby reducing post-harvest losses

On his part, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan on behalf of the MOFA commended Ghacem and other individuals and Corporate Organisations who have already donated for the gesture, and called on the public to emulate it to make this year’s celebration a success.

“Honouring the farmer is a responsibility for the whole country: therefore, we should all come together to make the event worth remembering,” he said.
