To effectively empower farmers in the country, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured that he is going to provide them with credit facilities when he is made president.
Dr. Bawumia underscored the significant role agriculture plays in nation-building hence, the agriculture sector will be his focus as the leader of the country.
The NPP flagbearer remarked that government is working on data collection of farmers which is nearly done, therefore his administration will use the data collected to fish out the genuine farmers and grant them credit facilities.
Dr. Bawumia as part of his engagement with farmers also stated that his government will reorganize the cocoa spraying programme since it is declining.
He reiterated his focus on mechanized farming to provide mechanised centres as well as hire farmers' farming equipment for their activities.
The Vice President who expressed the NPP's determination to ensure the well-being of farmers, said, the NPP government is going to ensure the completion of the database of farmers very soon. Adding that the completion will also enable the government to begin the implementation of the farmers' pension scheme for cocoa farmers.
Some of the cocoa farmers after pleading for further increase in Cocoa prices asked Dr. Bawumia to certify the chemicals they are using for their farming since most of them are poisonous for their production.
Dr. Bawumia who met with farmers and traditional practitioners as part of his two-day familiarization tour in the Ashanti region, outlined his vision for the sector where most of them were also given the chance to ask questions and share their views.
