A new innovation in the pounding of the local delicacy Fufu mostly eaten by Akans and other tribes appears to be catching on with several homes. It’s quite common these days to find pounding outlets offering these services.
The machine however seems to be fizzling out the conventional pounding with the mortar and the pestle.
Fufu is a delicacy relished by people in the Southern part of Ghana especially the Ahanti Region. The usual sweat and energy can simply not be taken out of the fufu pounding process.
However the artisans at Suame magazine have recently manufactured a machine that aids in the pounding of fufu. The fufu pounding machine is similar to the corn mill in terms of its operation and make up. There are the wooden and the stainless steel brands of the fufu pounding machine.
Prices for the fufu pounding machines ranges between GH¢ 500 and GH¢ 1,200.
The fufu pounding machine just like the corn mill has been commercialised within several areas in Ghana especially the Ashanti Region.
Though very helpful, just after few years of being in the system, most people seem to be worried about this conventional method of fufu pounding which according to them does not even come close to the real deal. Some customers who have ever had to resort to the fufu pounding machine shared their concerns with Ultimate News.
“I don’t like the fufu pounding machine, two metals rubbing against each other and I see it to be very unwholesome for consumption. I think it is laziness to use the fufu pounding machine”
However, the pioneers of the fufu pounding machine at Suame Magazine say they invest a lot of time and money into the manufacturing of the machine.
They tell Ultimate News proliferation of the fufu pounding machine has accounted for the use of unsafe materials in the manufacturing.
“We invest a lot of time and money to manufacture the machine. I have heard people say that when you use the fufu pounding machine cancer but this is not true. We use stainless steel and this cannot give anybody cancer”, the artisans revealed.
Ultimate news in an attempt to bounce this whole idea of fufu pounding machine with the Environmental Health Department of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) proved futile.
