GAFCO to penetrate ECOWAS and European markets

Accra, March 1, GNA - A leading player in the Ghanaian agro-food processing industry, Ghana Agro Food Company Limited (GAFCO) on Wednesday said it was poised to penetrate the sub-regional and the European market with new products in the coming years. The Company is exploring opportunities in the West Africa Sub-Region and Europe and has boosted its research and development efforts to come up with new product varieties to promote trade between Ghana and other Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to expand its export revenue base.

A brief ceremony to reintroduce GAFCO's new 'Nampa' brand of canned fish at the ongoing 10th Ghana International Trade in Accra, Mr Bapu Srinivasulu, General Manager in Charge of Foods, said the new product was designed to suit the changing consumer needs. He said Nampa brand, "which is a premium quality, comes in different varieties such as Nampa mackerel in tomato sauce, Nampa sardine in tomato sauce and a range of tuna variants."

Mr Srinivasulu said the brand was carefully processed to retain the Omega-3 oils that played a significant part in keeping cholesterol levels low and stabilising heart beats and reducing blood pressure. Currently, total production level of Nampa stood at 80 tonnes per day with over 70 per cent being exported mainly to the European market to meet the regulation of the Ghana's free zone enclave. 01 March 1, 2006
