Accra, July 20, GNA- The President of the Ghana Internet Service Providers Association (GISPA), Mrs Nana Yaa Owusu Prempeh on Tuesday expressed the association's wish to be part of the regulatory process that would ensure that Ghana Telecom did not stifle the operations of private service providers.
Mrs Owusu Prempeh was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the launch of Ghana Telecom's new "broadband4U" project, an Internet service that would enable customers access some of the fastest internet connections available.
Mrs Owusu Prempeh said though the association welcomed the GT into the service providers system, it would expect GT to operate on a level playing field that would enhance the operations of the private providers who were the forerunners in that industry.
She expressed regret that GT as a national entity had not given the association the needed recognition as a major stakeholder in the Internet service provision.
She said there was the need to ensure that such private entities existed to give customers, choices or options and to ensure a fair competition.
"If there were no choices and competition, it would have been difficult to travel by air as the Ghana Airways encountered its challenges", she said.
She therefore urged the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Ministry of Communications to intervene to ensure that "GT does the right thing".
