GMWU committed to industrial harmony within mining industry

Obuasi, April 4, GNA - The leadership of the Ghana Mineworkers Union (GMWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) says it is interested in encouraging progressive relations with management of mining companies to promote peace and harmony within the industry. However, it will not encourage the union going to bed with management, Mr Prince Ankrah, Deputy General Secretary of the GMWU has said.

Speaking to newsmen after a four-day orientation training for newly elected executive members of the Obuasi branch of AngloGold Ashanti on Friday, Mr Ankrah said it was important for the union to promote the interest of its members alongside that of the companies. Mr Ankrah said it was time the Obuasi branch reviewed its training curriculum for the workers to reflect on the present and the future needs of the company.

He said the leadership of the union would continue to explore avenues to help improve its members and their dependants. Mr Y.B. Amponsah, General Manager, Human Resources of AngloGold Ashanti, said management was prepared to foster new relations with employees.
