GRA confirms valuation takeover challenges

George Blankson, Commissioner-General of GRA George Blankson, Commissioner-General of GRA

Mr. George Blankson, Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has confirmed that the takeover of the core functions of classification, valuation and risk management from destination inspection companies experienced some challenges during the 2015 financial year.

“During the 2015 financial year, the Authority witnessed the takeover of the core functions of classification, valuation and risk management from the destination inspection companies.

“Even though early stages of the project experienced some challenges, these have been overcome and it is hoped we will build on the successes attained so far to improve revenue in the years ahead,” he said.

Mr. Blankson made this observation in Accra at a retirement service party for some 122 Principal Revenue Officers in Accra to recognise their immense contributions made toward sustenance of the Authority and national economy.

At a colourful ceremony, each retired staff received a 24-inch flat-screen colour television, a plaque, and a citation for their hard work towards revenue generation during their service.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you, our gallant retired officers, for working assiduously while in office to contribute toward effective revenue collection. You have done your part and it is now for the serving officers to take up the mantle, and I know we will work harder to ensure we continue meeting our targets.

“As an Authority, we are aware of the immeasurable contributions that you, our retired officers, have made in ensuring the growth of not only the GRA but the country as a whole. This is because it is the revenue you have helped mobilise -- some for as long as 40 years - that has kept the wheels of government turning.

“Therefore, on behalf of the board and management I wish to express profound appreciation to you all for your commitment and dedicated service to our dear country,” he said.

He added: “To serving officers, I know you are happy for your retired friends because they have ended their tenure and hopefully made their mark. I therefore urge you all to resolve to be more committed in your duties and give of your best, so that on retiring you can be proud of your output”.

He indicated that the Authority during the 2015 operational year won an excellence award from the Institute of Public Relations for the new look of the GRA Website, and was also adjudged one of the five top-most public sector institutions at the 2015 IMANI Public Sector Leadership awards.
