The Head of Compliance and Debt Management Unit at the Sunyani Small Tax Payers Office, of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr Kwabena Oware Boamah, has disclosed that the introduction of the Tax Identification Number (TIN) by government, was purposely to build an effective Tax data base and increase revenue for national development.

Mr Boamah, who made the disclosure on Suncity Radio on Tuesday morning, explained that without the TIN, no individual could transact business with some key state institutions in the country.

He listed the institutions as, DVLA, Passport Office, Registrar General’s Department, Controller and Accountant General’s Department, Immigration, Banks, Insurance, Courts, Hospitals, MMDAs, Lands Commission, etc.

Mr Boamah further indicated that the generation of the TIN forms was free and urged the general public to go to the GRA offices for their TIN certificates.

“Don’t wait till in crisis to rush for TIN, because you may not know when you may come in contact with these institutions,” he cautioned.

He reminded the public to go along with any National I.D to process TIN certificate.

“The policy is also aimed at moving Ghana along global standards,” he said.
