GSE dips as mixed fortunes continue

Accra, July 19, GNA - The Ghana Stock Exchange opened on a low note on Monday as the bourse continued to witness mixed fortunes on account of poor share price performance.

The GSE All-Share Index, the benchmark measure, dipped 18.05 points to close at 7,052.02 points, pulled down by losses of British American Tobacco and Aluworks.

Change for the year to date fell to 98.46 points.

Total shares traded, however, went up to 9.2 million shares, thanks to a block trade in Accra Brewery Limited shares. The equity alone sold 8.9 million shares.

On the broader market, there were five price changes - three positive and two negative.

Accra Brewery Limited gained five cedis at 1,305 cedis, Clydstone went up by 51 cedis at 1,051 cedis and Patterson Zochonis was 365 cedis richer to close at 4,015 cedis.

The losers were Aluworks, which lost 100 cedis at 12,100 cedis and British American Tobacco, which shed 800 cedis at 7,000 cedis. Market capitalisation was 97,052.17 billion cedis from 3,380.2 million shares.
