Ho, May 19, GNA - Ghana Telecom (GT) on Tuesday began a nationwide consumer awareness campaign to increase the usage of its pre-paid telephone cards and double the current monthly sales of 150,000 to 300,000 cards.
The company would be holding mini durbars at all regional capitals and major towns, which will end in Accra to coincide with the draw of the pre-paid card raffle.
Ms Abla Awity, General Manager, Product Development and Management of the GT, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the first of the campaigns in Ho that though the product had been in use for sometime, patronage was low, especially outside the Accra-Tema metropolis. She said the campaign would also seek to correct the complaints of users, adding that most of the complaints were as a result of wrong usage of the cards.
Mr Charles Abu, Principal Marketing Officer of the GT who took the sparse crowd through the steps of usage, said the system is an intelligent network, which tracks usage and does not cheat. He said though the card had an expiry date, units left unused on the expired card could be charged to a new card.
Mr Abu said consumers should avoid passing on their operational numbers to others because they could be used for calls that would be charged to their account.
Mr Adjei Tawiah, Assistant Manager at the Product Development and Management Division urged consumers to patronise the cards to enable them avoid telephone bills that disturb finance.
