GTZ organises workshop for Tax Administrators

Accra, Jan. 11, GNA - The German Development Cooperation (GTZ) on Tuesday started a three-day workshop for Tax Administrators aimed at enhancing the formulation of an integrated tax administration. Under the theme: "Human Resource Management-The Way Forward for Ghanaian Tax Administrators" the workshop seeks to improve on the human resource base for the tax administration for an effective tax system. Dr Christoph Habammer from the GTZ said the workshop formed part of the Good Governance Programme of the GTZ to boost the capacity and efficiency of the revenue agencies.

He said the workshop would examine the training programmes of the three revenue agencies: Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Value Added Tax (VAT) and Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) to provide a forum for the formulation of a uniform, comprehensive and effective training programme.

Dr Habammer said this would improve on professionalism in service delivery and increased job and customer satisfaction. He said to build an effective and efficient modern tax net involved a consistent education of tax administrators and urged the participants to approach the subject with an open mind so as to achieve their objective.

Mr K. E. Enyimayew, Deputy Commissioner of IRS, called on revenue collectors to be proactive and to improve on their skills.
