Gas stations to shut down over LPG shortage in Accra?

Some consumers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) faced disappointment at gas stations in Accra as the product was unavailable.

With 'No Gas' notices pasted at the entrances of these gas stations, customers were left with the choice to either return home or visit other stations to check for LPG availability.

The high demand for LPG has led to crowding at the few stations with the product available for sale.

Meanwhile, marketers have projected a possible shutdown of gas stations if this problem persists.

Vice President of the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA), Gabriel Kumi, in an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV, said the LPG crisis could deteriorate further.

He stated categorically that gas stations could shut down by the weekend if supplies from Bulk Oil Distributors do not improve.

“My checks this morning indicate that about 70% of LPG outlets in the Greater Accra Metropolis have run out of gas. If the situation does not improve, this could rise to about 80%, and if the situation is not averted, by the close of tomorrow, we expect all LPG stations in Greater Accra to run out of gas,” he said.

Reacting to this, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) said it is working assiduously to avert the crisis.
