Ghana Airways to take delivery of two aircraft

Accra, April 1, GNA - Ghana Airways is to take immediate delivery of a Boeing 737 and Boeing 767 aircraft from Aviation Spares Company for its short and long haul operations since the lease period for its DC 10 expires at the end April and that of the DC by the end of May.

Mr Edward Dwemoh, Board Chairman of the Airline, told Journalists during a familiarisation tour of the new Kotoka International Airport Departure Hall, which was opened to the public on March 31 that Aviation Spares Company was expected to deliver the two aircraft as soon as practicable.

The Board Chairman, who was accompanied by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Airline, Mrs Akua Sarpong and Mr Banner Bruce, Head of Public Relations, noted that if a strategic partner were found for the Airline the it might decide either to take on the aircraft or let them go.

He said the Board was aware that Ghana Airways problems were managerial and attitudinal and expressed the hope that the coming of a strategic partner would turn the fortunes of the airline around. Mrs Sarpong said Ghana Airway was working on a policy paper to ensure that the Airline was revived to enable it to pay its debts.
