Ghana Gas helicopters ‘not missing’ – Manteaw

Whereabouts of the helicopters remain a mystery Whereabouts of the helicopters remain a mystery

The co-chair of the Ghana Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (GHEITI), Dr. Steve Manteaw has downplayed media reports that three helicopters for Ghana Gas Company are missing.

According to him, even though the whereabouts of the helicopters remain a mystery after government of Ghana paid $150 million for them it is too early to assume that they are missing.

Speaking Tuesday May 23, 2017 on Starr Today, Dr. Manteaw who is also a member of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) said “…sources close to Ghana Gas revealed that indeed the helicopters were bought and that they are being kept somewhere” adding “and I’m not too sure where…”

He continued that “so it is early days yet to conclude that they are missing and that for now we just couldn’t find them at the project but it does not mean that they are missing. So we just need to find out where they are and in which condition and shape they are in now.”

Earlier Tuesday when he appeared on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ he stated that he had asked: “about the helicopters but there were no answers forth coming.”

Meanwhile, the new management of the Gas Company has questioned the purchase of the said missing helicopters and four others since there is no helipad for them.

Reports suggest that the four helicopters which were purchased at 100 Million Dollars are broken down.
