President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Nana Appiagyei Dankwawoso, and his team today visited the country’s premier consumer goods company, Unilever Ghana Limited in Tema to acquaint themselves with the day-to-day operations of the company.
The business tour is an avenue adopted by the Chamber to promote brands and best practices of its member firms in the current globally competitive business space and to get accustomed with concerns.
The initiative forms part of GNCCI’s legislative mandate to promote and protect industrial interests of the country.
Received by Acting Managing Director of Unilever Ghana, Nazaire Djako, he added that the company’s recently acquired Personal Care Dryer, Biomass Boiler and Orals factory as well as other newly upgraded plants, would go a long way to reduce its dependence on imports from other countries.
Mr Nazaire Djako also informed the delegation that the company’s investment reflects the much-acclaimed ‘Unilever Sustainable Living Plan’ (USLP) which seeks to improve health and hygiene needs of people, reduce the environmental impact of its operations and enhance the livelihoods of people around the globe.
For his part, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankwawoso commended the company for its contribution towards the growth of the private sector and development of the country through provision of job opportunities.
He further encouraged the company to continually contribute towards the accelerated development of the country by supporting other sectors, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
“On this occasion the chamber commends your contributions towards the economic and industrial growth of the country particularly in manufacturing consumable goods. We also commend your significant contribution to the country through job creation, training opportunities and job creation” he detailed.
