Ghana, Nicaragua to strengthen ties

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed Ghana's willingness to foster stronger relations between Latin American countries to advance mutually beneficial economic cooperation and trade.

The President noted that the shared past history between Africa and Latin America should drive the urge to work together to advance development.

"The relations between us here in Africa and those in Latin America is imposed upon us by history as a history of the peoples who been exploited by outsiders so it is the basis for us to get together and work together"
The President made these comments when the foreign Affairs Minister of Nicaragua, Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, called on him to deliver a letter from the President of that country, Daniel Ortega at the Jubilee House yesterday.

The President noted that Ghana has over the years enjoyed good relations with Nicaragua and pledged commitment to deepen those ties.

"We in Ghana are very interested in working with the peoples of Latin America especially with Nicaragua," he added.

Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres on his part, sought the support of Ghana to enable Nicaragua attain an observer status at the African Union.

He added that Nicaragua is looking at strengthen ties and increase investment areas such as the petroleum sector.

He commended President Nana Addo for entrenching Ghana’s democratic credentials and fostering same on the continent and beyond.
