The Ghana Police Service's telephone service has reportedly been disconnected by Vodafone over unpaid bills, according to a high ranking member of the police administration.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Ken Yeboah, his office has no landline due to the fact that the service has been disconnected because it was not able to pay the bills.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Abusua FM, COP Ken Yeboah was reluctant to reveal exactly how much the service owes Vodafone, but expressed that the situation may affect his outfit's ability to fight crime in light of the recent spike in armed robberies.

“The problem is across Ghana because we rely on government subvention to cater for some of these overhead costs.

"But for some time now, we have been constrained and this has led to the disconnection of our lines. As I speak, I use my own mobile phone and the GoTTa phones”, he revealed.

COP Ken Yeboah's revelation comes in the wake of a rise in armed robberies in the country. In response to the spike in the crime rate, government recently announced that joint police and military patrol teams would be deployed.
