Accra, June 24, GNA- Workers of the Ghana Post were on Thursday asked to serve customers better by responding to their needs and preferences, Professor Robert Adu Fenning, Board Chairman of Ghana Postal Service said on Thursday.
He asked the workers to make the company's products attractive and readily accessible.
Prof Fenning was addressing the launch of "Swift Post", a local parcel delivery service in Accra. The Swift Post has a fast delivery of parcels within 24 hours in the Southern Sector and 72 hours delivery in the Northern Sector.
The board chairman said customer satisfaction had become a key issue in Ghana's Postal Industry adding, "competition in business has become keener than before."
Prof. Fenning urged the Service not to compromise on quality service adding "every worker must see this as a personal responsibility."
He therefore called on the management to work in close partnership with its workers in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. He told the workers that customer needs and taste had changed overtime and every company that wished to compete successfully needed to map out strategies for maintaining good customer relations. Prof Fenning also asked Postal Industries in the country to demonstrate innovativeness in order to survive the increasing competition in the industry.
" We are in competition with several organizations in the parcel delivery business, and unless we put in extra efforts, we risk losing our share of the business to our rivals," he said.
Mr. Samuel Asare, Director, Finance and Administration, Ghana Post noted that parcel posting has been identified as a contributing factor to the growth of the company, but records in the recent years showed that returns in the field had gone down.
"Revenue earned from this service is mostly from foreign deliveries with low local patronage", he said.
Mr. Asare said this was due to lack of public awareness of the existence of the service, lack of public confidence in the promptness of delivery and poor customer service.
He said Ghana Post was repackaging local post services to help address all shortcomings, expand our operational activities and improve our revenue base." June 24 04
