Ghana Railway Company Board reconstituted

Accra, March 1, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has approved a new nine-member Board of Directors for the Ghana Railway Company Limited and tasked the members to turn around the fortunes of the company. The new board under the chairmanship of Mr Henry Benya, a management consultant at Takoradi, was expected to provide new impetus designed to transform the ailing company into an efficient and competitive mode of transportation, according to a statement signed in Accra on Wednesday by the Minister of Harbours and Railways, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi.

The statement said the board was also expected to aggressively pursue new initiatives that would ensure financial viability and prudent management of the distressed company.

Other members of the board are Mr Emmanuel Opoku, Acting Director of Ghana Railway Company, Mr Ben Owusu-Mensah, Director-General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Lepowura M.N.D. Jawula, Acting Chief Director, Ministry of Harbours and Railways and Mr D.C. Gyimah, Managing Director of National Investment Bank.

The rest are Mr Jurgen Eijgendaal, Managing Director of Ghana Manganese Company Limited, Nana Awulai Agyefi Kwame II, Omanhene of Nsein Traditional Area, Ms Hilda Addo, MP for Kwadaso and Mr Samuel Kokovena, General Secretary of the Railway Workers' Union.
