Ghana Telecom picks Huawei for 3G contract

Ghanaian incumbent, Vodafone-owned Ghana Telecom has

selected Chinese network equipment vendor Huawei to

upgrade its 2G network to 3G. The US$120 million deal

will take place over 18 months by which time the

operator intends to have rebranded as Vodafone Ghana.

Ghana had a total subscription base of 11.4 million at

end-December ’08 according to Informa Telecoms & Media.
