The president of the republic of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills who is expected to open the African forum which will be hosted in Ghana, scheduled for the 8th to the 10th of February 2010 at the Accra international conference centre, ahead of the program has described it as “one of the longest standing international business events on the continent” with the reputation for making “practical contributions over the past decade to economic development in many countries.
The forum being organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion centre (GIPC) in collaboration with the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) having its theme as “Accelerating intra Africa trade and investment” is expected to bring together business and government leaders from Africa, Europe, North America and the Asia to address how the private sector, international community and governments can work together to restore high levels of growth in the face of the global economic meltdown.
Mr. George Aboagye chief executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) stated in a Press release that, the forum will provide a platform for countries to profile investment in sectors including energy, oil and gas, agriculture, infrastructure, and manufacturing to an international audience of over 500 business leaders and investors.
The forum, he enunciated is expected to strengthen the linkages between the African economies to underpin new trade and investment opportunities in key economic sectors, and as well offer excellent networking opportunities to discuss public private partnership (PPP) which will facilitate the improvement of infrastructure, trade and movements of goods and services.
He added that, it will also bring investors and projects together which will support the economic growth required to enable African countries realize their aspirations and prosper in the emerging global economy of the 21st century. He further stated that the event is an opportunity especially for the private sector and all business associations in the country having as keynote speakers H.E Hifikepunye Pohamba, president of the Republic of Namibia, Pascal Dozie Chairman of the commonwealth business council/MTN Nigeria, Hon. Mahmoud Mohieldin minister of investment of the Arab republic of Egypt, Mr. Kofi Bucknor Managing partner of Kingdom Zephyr African Management among other equally important personalities,
