Ghana bourse closes lower in thin trading volume

ACCRA, Oct 6 (Reuters) - The Ghana Stock Exchange's main index closed lower on Wednesday in thin volume, the official market report showed.

The all-share index shed 0.45 point to close at 762.90, down 12.14 percent on the year. On Monday, the previous trading day, it closed unchanged at 763.35.

Volume dropped to 30,600 shares worth 24.90 million cedis ($9.051), compared with 822,160 shares worth 338.54 million cedis ($117,549) in the previous session.

Unilever (UNIL.GH) fell 20 cedis and finished at 1,870, with 5,000 shares traded. Accra Breweries (ABL.GH) lost one cedi and posted a new low of 397, trading 1,400 shares.

The only gainer, British American Tobacco (BAT.GH), added 10 cedis to 410. It was also the most active stock, attracting 11,600 shares of the total.

Despite a surge in the price of gold, Ashanti Goldfields (AGC.GH) remained unchanged at 18,700 cedis. On Tuesday, its shares traded in London (ASHGq.L) rose $1.77 to $10.375.
