Actor John Dumelo has stated that placing an embargo on the importation of vehicles into the country is an impossible feat.

His comment follows a conversation trend he started on social media platform, Twitter, asking his followers what they thought was the best way to reduce unemployment in Ghana.

“Let’s have a conversation. What do you think it’s the best way to reduce unemployment in Ghana?” He wrote.

A tweep suggested to him that there should be a ban on the importation of foreign vehicles adding that government partner with manufacturers of Kantanka Automobiles as well as establish workshops in all constituencies in Ghana to enable mass production.

In response, the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP candidate explained that importation is a two-way affair emphasizing that local producers will also need to export their cars to other countries.

He was however, quick to add that cars manufactured in Ghana must be competitive to survive in the market.

Meanwhile, Local car manufacturer, Kantanka Automobile has revealed that the company doubled its production capacity to some 250 units last year.

The company attributed the increase to the high demand of cars from neighbouring country, Nigeria as it produced some 400 cars to hit the market.

“Production is currently still on-going; we have doubled last year’s production and we have just recently added an order of 100 vehicles to hit the Nigerian market. We are expanding our facilities, our workshop and now we are also poised to produce more cars to hit the Ghanaian market as well,” General Manager of Kantanka Automobile, Francis Kudjordjie revealed to reporters.
