Ghana saw its mobile subscription base pass seven million at end-‘07, according to new data published by telecoms regulator the National Communication Authority (NCA).
According to the NCA’s figures, Ghana recorded quarterly net growth of 8.4% in the last three months of 2007, taking the country’s total subscription base to 7.6 million, at end-Dec.
MTN Ghana was market leader by the start of 2008 with four million subscriptions, ahead of Millicom Ghana (Tigo) with two million, while GT- OneTouch had 1.27 million and Kasapa Telecom had 289,066. OneTouch recorded a net loss of 4,493 users in the last three months of the year, with a proportion of the net decline attributed to subscribers having their subscriptions deactivated.
